NEMBC-3ZZZ Digital on-line live match digital broadcast in SPANISH from the MCG, Collingwood v. St. Kilda, with commentators Vanessa Gatica and Max “All-Rounder” Perez-Torres, Saturday 1:45 pm EST.

Welcome to the 9th round of the NEMBC’s, AFL Footy Blog. Round 8 got underway last Friday night from the SCG with the Swans winning the grinding contest and controversy when Sydney’s Rampe climbed on the goal post just as the Essendon player was having a kick on goal after the siren. What many thought should have been a free kick was merely waved on with the Swans winning by the narrowest of margins. Rampe was fined $1000 by the league for the goal post incident and $10,000 for his remarks to the umpire earlier on in the game.

More controversy erupted as the Bombers, Orazio Fanta-sia’s name changed from “Horazio Fant-aish-ia”, with Triple M’s, Brian Taylor refusing to call him by his phonetic Italian name citing - “We don't pronounce Italian names in Australia the full Italian way," Taylor said. "We pronounce it with the Australianism in it and that's how I will continue to do it." Wrong Brian, stop spitting the dummy and embrace diversity!

Saturday saw Carlton and Collingwood play an old fashioned entertaining game as the lead constantly changed and many times scores were equal. The Magpies eventually winning by a small margin and by no means were the Blues disgraced. Up in Central Victoria, Ballarat, the Western Bulldogs comprehensively beat the Brisbane Lions on a cold, wet and windy 11-degree day. I guess the Lions missed the tropical climate!

Still on the topsey-turvey season so far, the GWS Giants seriously lost to Hawthorn, which makes me believe that the Giants cannot play on the MCG! Further, the Freo Dockers lost dismally at home to the Tigers. Work that one out, a tipster's nightmare!

Friday night footy moves to the West with the Eagles playing Melbourne in Perth. I can’t see Melbourne improving enough from their last game to beat the West Coast, so it’s the Eagles with a hefty 40 point victory.

Saturday Collingwood at the MCG plays host to St.Kilda. The Saints will make a fist of this game early, but eventually, the injury-hit Sainters will be over-run by the Magpies. The Brisbane Lions at the Gabba take on the Adelaide Crows.  As good as the Lions are at home, I think the Crows will win a tight one in Queensland. The Cattery down the Princess Highway will be buzzing on Saturday arvo as Geelong take on the Western Bulldogs. The result will be as predictable as the sun rising from the East, Geelong by a substantial margin.

After last week’s disappointing narrow lost, Essendon will regroup to play Freo at Marvel Stadium. The Bombers will win this one because if they don’t, they can kiss their finals aspirations goodbye. North Melbourne at home away from home at Blundstone Arena in Hobart will take on the Sydney Swans. North is not travelling well and has copped some heavy losses along the way. I am still far from convinced that they are a force to contend with. Sydney will be in their element at Blundstone as they notoriously play better away from home and this game is not going to be the exception, they will beat the ‘Roos.

Sunday’s three games will wrap the weekend up with Port Adelaide at home, up against the Gold Coast Suns. Simply put, the Power at Adelaide Oval rarely lose. Richmond and Hawthorn from the “G” will be a tight, tough and grinding match. Richmond have been resilient under enormous pressure lately. They have lost a few and won a few, but despite their injury worries they are still up there and challenging. The Hawks, on the other hand, are an enigma. Yes they beat GWS last week at the MCG but as convincing as they looked, I have a feeling Richmond will have their measure, so it’s the Tigers for me.

The Last game on Sunday comes all the way from Western Sydney where the GWS Giants go head to head with the Carlton Blues. The Giants lost badly to the Hawks last week and will be out to extract revenge and join the winner's circle again. Carlton also lost last week by a narrow margin pushing Collingwood to the brink of defeat! So who is going to win this one? I will stick my neck out and say the Blues, because of the way they played against a formidable opposition last week!

That’s it from me, catch you next week with more comment and tips.
Round 8, I am picking: West Coast Eagles, Collingwood, Adelaide, Geelong, Essendon, Sydney Swans, Port Adelaide, Carlton & Richmond: (Progressive tip score:43)

Top AFL tipsters form the AGE have 36 and from Foxtel 40.
