Round 2 proved to be another topsy-turvy insight to many teams form as well as producing some incredible results. St Kilda and the Bulldogs are in a strange place with both sides boasting two wins out of as many games and sitting high on the AFL ladder.

Hawthorn suffered a humiliating loss after being in front at three quarter time by 5 goals, the Bulldogs kicked 9 goals to one in the last quarter to completely unravel the Hawks. More shocks along the way as the Gold Coast Suns defeated Fremantle and St. Kilda beat Essendon while the highly fancied Demons suffered their second defeat in a row.

This Thursday the Crows, at home, take on the Geelong Cats who have two emphatic victories so far this season and on paper at least, look the goods to bury Adelaide. Dangerfield, Ablett and Tom Hawkins will prove too much on the night for “Tex” Walker and Co.….And for the margin tipsters, Geelong by 36 points.

Friday night football comes from the MCG as the Melbourne Demons tackle Essendon. I am going to give Melbourne one more opportunity for redemption as the Bombers don’t have the rucks or forwards to deal with the Demons who are going to be out for retribution after suffering two loses in a row to mediocre opposition.

Saturday, Carlton play the Sydney Swans at Marvel Stadium and while Sydney was thoroughly beaten at home by the Crows last week they still look dangerous with “Buddy” Franklin up front.  Carlton is playing good footy and met very strong opposition in their last two encounters going down, but they remain a chance to crack it for their first win of the season against the Swans. The GWS Giants at home should prevail against an injury depleted Richmond Tigers without Riewoldt, Rance and Houli, while the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba should easily account for Port Adelaide to secure their third win in a row and keep their unblemished record intact.

The big one on Saturday night is the grand final replay between Collingwood and the West Coast Eagles from the MCG. This game promises to be huge and will draw 80,000 plus spectators if the weather holds out. West Coast will have to make the long trip from Perth but like 6 months ago, they will play their one score for every two forward 50 entries brand of football to defeat the Magpies once again. Don’t get me wrong – it’s going to be a very tough and entertaining match with only a few points in it, but if inclement weather sets in, it could be anyone’s game!

On Sunday from Marvel Stadium, the Bulldogs, on a roll, will easily account for the Gold Coast Suns. Hawthorn will be out looking for a big score after last week’s capitulation to the Dogs and should defeat the Kangaroos at the MCG, while Fremantle at home in the West will bring St. Kilda’s winning streak to a sudden halt.

See you next week!

Round 3: I am picking: Geelong, Melbourne, GWS Giants, Carlton, Brisbane, West Coast, Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Fremantle. (Progressive tip score: 8)
