The Multicultural AFL Football TV & Radio Show - Round 10

Round 9 produced some of the most consistent footy yet, with almost 9 favourites getting into the winner's circle. The only game that may have gone against the grain with footy tipsters was the one point win by the Brisbane Lions against the Adelaide Crows.

Some games were close until the last quarter and while the Saints put up a sterling fight up to three quarter time against the Magpies, they capitulated badly in the last giving Collingwood a big win. Melbourne pushed the West Coast in Perth, but again couldn’t hold the Eagles at bay in the final quarter going down by just under 3 goals after leading all day.

There were many reports this week. Players were getting a one-week suspension and fined, but the report that takes the cake is Carlton’s “Daisy” Thomas' report for calling an umpire a cheat! Indeed, the standard of umpiring in the GWS v. Blues game was average and inconsistent. If the AFL wants to raise the standard of umpiring, they could overnight decree that umpires “interpretation” of the rules ends and literal enforcement of the rule as written without exception, begins.

Round 10 begins on Friday night when the Sydney Swans take on the Magpies at the SCG. Collingwood is travelling very well so far in the season and although they will be tested by the Swans, I don’t think that Sydney has the firepower to match the ‘Pies all the way. Collingwood to win by 18 points.

Saturday Hawthorn plays host to Port Adelaide in Launceston. Port Power got through a hard game in the wet against the Suns last week and, on paper, look the team to beat. However, Hawthorn playing at their home away from home will be too good on the day and will take victory by a narrow margin. Western Bulldogs have impressed lately so they should be in the box seat to take on lowly North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium and win.

Adelaide Crows at home take on the West Coast Eagles. This is probably the match of the round. West Coast has been good and at times not so good, so they have not really hit their straps yet and this encounter would be difficult for them to say the least. Adelaide is always dangerous at home especially with their huge supporter base behind them. I feel Adelaide will just edge in front of the Eagles and take the points. Meanwhile, up North the Gold Coast Suns meet the Geelong Cats with only one result – How far Geelong!

The other big game on Saturday night coming from the MCG is Richmond and Essendon under lights. The Tigers have just started to find their mojo again after a disastrous run of injuries and defeats earlier in the season. Essendon, on the other hand, have been hot and cold and one doesn’t know what team will take the field from week to week – It’s an attitude and confidence issue with the Bombers which they desperately want to overcome. This game is going to be hard and tough and depends on the players’ attitudes - Richmond by a tiger’s whisker!

Sunday and Melbourne will face the GWS Giants. The Giants have failed miserably at the MCG over 19 games with only 2 wins to their name. If this game was played in Western Sydney the Giants would demolish Melbourne. However since the match is at the MCG, I am leaning towards Melbourne to win a close one.

St. Kilda play Carlton at Marvel Stadium. Both sides were humiliated last week, the Saint’s by Collingwood in the last quarter and the Blues were never in it losing by 93 points. The Blues will bounce back with a vengeance and so will the Saints. It will all come down to the mettle and resilience of both sides to turn their last defeat into a win this time around. It will be the battle of the desperados. In a close game, I am going for Carlton because they have more to lose this week than St. Kilda.

Last game of the round comes from Optus Stadium over in Perth where Fremantle play the Brisbane Lions. Brisbane is coming off a close hard fought win against the Adelaide Crows, but this time the Lions are the ones on the five and a half hour flight to the West. Freo at home, with an opponent that has just travelled the longest distance in AFL territory, to play a game does not look good for the visitors. Fremantle to beat the Lions- Just!

That’s it from me, catch you next week with more comment and tips.
Round 10, I am picking: Collingwood, Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs,  Adelaide, Geelong, Richmond, Melbourne, Carlton and  Fremantle (Progressive tip score:50)
Top AFL tipsters form the AGE have 46 and from Foxtel 45.
