2019 Multicultural AFL Show - Round 6
The Multicultural AFL Football TV & Radio Show - Round 6

Welcome to another edition
of the NEMBC’s, AFL Footy Blog. The AFL match results continue to be a tipsters
nightmare coming into round 6. Umpires are still inconsistent but the incident that
took the cake was the ball hitting the inside of the goal post in the first quarter
of the Brisbane v Collingwood match at the Gabba which was given as a goal! No one
picked up the mistake - not a field umpire, not the goal umpire and, to make
things worse, the video review did not pick it up either. The only exception was the TV
commentators and vision. Not good enough
in my book! Just imagine if it happened in a grand final.
On this occasion this mistake
was irrelevant to the overall result of the game, but if it’s not picked up in
future it may affect a close result and that would not be good PR for the League.
Round 5 consisted of five
days of footy and produced some extraordinary results. The Giants and Eagles
were thrashed by lesser teams, underdogs got up, Melbourne’s meltdown
continued, St. Kilda on top of the ladder for a day and the Blues finally got off
the bottom by never-the-less decimating the Bulldogs 101 to 57.
So where does it all
go from here? Another week in round 6 of five days of footy
matches, commencing tomorrow evening with the MCG co-tenants, the Richmond
Tigers, taking on the embattled Melbourne side. Sorry to say that Melbourne will
continue their downward spiral as the Tigers have regained their early form -
Richmond by 36 points.
Thursday footy will
see the traditional Anzac Day clash between the Magpies and Bombers in front of close to a sell-out crowd of around 90,000 plus (weather permitting).
Collingwood is coming off an emphatic win against the Lions away and Essendon
have beaten their last two opponents by big margins. The game promises to be a classic
encounter, tough and close but I am leaning towards Collingwood etching out a victory
due to their more consistent play over the last couple of weeks.
Friday night footy comes
from Adelaide Oval with Port Adelaide hosting the North Melbourne Kangaroos.
Looking at the ‘Roos there is something not quite right at Arden St. of late as
their form fluctuates from good to really terrible, so it looks like another big
win to the Port Power!
The four games on
Saturday kicks off with the Gold Coast Suns at home taking on the Brisbane Lions.
The Lions showed a lot of endeavour and grit for the first three weeks of the
season and capitulation in the next two. On the other hand, the Suns had some good
hard fought narrow wins and I think at home they may just do enough to beat the
Lions. In the other games, St. Kilda, currently in great form, will beat the
Adelaide Crows at Marvel Stadium, Fremantle in Perth will easily account for
the Western Bulldogs and in the local Sydney derby, the GWS Giants will be too
fast and physical for the Swans to handle. A big win for the Giants.
Sunday’s early game
comes from Hawthorn’s home away from home in Launceston where the
Hawks take on the Carlton Blues. A very interesting game which will really
measure the progress of Carlton against the wanning Hawthorn side. It is about
time Carlton stepped up moving forward and may take the win for two in a row.
The Last game of the
day will be a real blockbuster played at Geelong’s home ground against a hot
and cold Eagles side. Last home game for the Cats was a loss to the GWS Giants
a couple of weeks ago. The Eagles disappointed in the first round and in the
latest round going down to the opposition by big margins. Their away form is fair and traveling all the way from Perth to the cattery could be
draining especially these couple of rounds with short turnovers between games.
Geelong at their home fortress are not going to lose two home games in a row or
give up easily – So it’s the Cats for
me!.
Well that’s it from
me– see you next week.
Round 6: I am picking: Richmond,
Collingwood, Port Adelaide, Gold Coast, St. Kilda, Fremantle, GWS Giants,
Carlton and Geelong. (Progressive
tip score: 22)
